Florence Margaret Ballinger passed gently away on May 26, 2003, at Selah Convalescent Center. Florence lived a healthy, active life and reached the rich age of 96 years old.

Florence was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on November 26, 1906. Her Father, Peter Hansen passed away in his late twenties when Florence was four. In 1910 her mother Hansina married Albert S. Lee in Spokane, Washington. Albert and Hansina subsequently had three children, two daughters and one son. They ran a successful grocery business in Wenatchee and later a dairy business in La Center, where Florence graduated from high school. In 1927, the family moved to Zillah to own and operate a grocery business where Florence worked after graduating from Yakima Business College. Florence was very active in Camp Fire and fondly recalled her Camp Fire experiences.

FLorence met Robert James Ballinger and they were married on November 18, 1938 in Yakima. Four years later they moved to Seattle where Robert was the manager of a freight business. Bob and Florence had two children while living in Seattle, Roy Theodore and Bettie Helen.

In 1954, they purchased a grocery business in Grandview. This family business was the joy of Bob's heart and Florence was a perfect business partner and supportive wife. Their customers were their friends and neighbors and the Ballingers were warmly welcomed into this close knit community. Bob and Florence retired from the grocery business due to Bob's failing health. Florence transitioned her role as business partner to caregiver until 1973 when Bob passed away.

In 1992, she moved to Yakima to be closer to her daughter and family.

Florence became active in the Children's Hospital Auxiliary Guild in Grandview serving for several years as President. Florence was a woman of strength and integrity, a successful businesswoman and good friend to special people in her life.

Florence is survived by two sisters, Helen Gilliland and Dorothy Thomas of Yakima, a son, Roy Theodore Ballinger and a daughter Bettie Helen Ingham of Yakima, a granddaughter, Erica Lebens-Englund and three nephews and a niece. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Ballinger, a brother Bob Lee of Boise, Idaho and her parents Hansina and Albert Lee and Peter Hansen.
