Delbert was the son of Bertrand (Bert) Bancroft and Ava Sarah Beringer Bancroft. He was said to be medium height, slender, with brown eyes and dark hair. He was a meter tester for the Gas and Electric Co. for a time and then went to Canada in 1928 as a Photographic Engraver in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. After returning to the states he worked in the same field for Star Telegraph Co. in Fort Worth, Texas. He was in Fort Worth on April 30, 1930.
