HENRY J. BANG.
Henry J. Bang, proprietor of the Sturtevant House and of a German cafe at No. 1,214 Broadway, died early yesterday morning of heart failure. He was born in Bingen-on-the-Rhine sixty-four years ago. He came to this country when twenty-two years old and opened a restaurant at No. 206 Broadway. He later opened another restaurant at No. 231 Broadway, opposite the Post Office, which became famous as the favorite haunt of Tweed, Harry Genet and other members of the Tweed Ring. Mr. Bang moved up town to 1, 214 Broadway in 1876 and opened a German beer hall. The place became a rendezvous for prominent Germans. The Sturtevant House losing its proprietor in 1893, Mr. Bang leased it and has run it under his own management ever since. He leaves a widow, four sons and a daughter.
