Rita Barbosa Arredondo, 80, of Nederland passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont. She was born February 27, 1929 to Angelita Vargas Barbosa and Prejedis Barbosa in Port Arthur, Texas. She has been a life long resident of the area. Rita retired from Nederland Independent School District as a food service worker at Nederland High School after 12 years of service. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10;00 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2009 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. T. R. Blanco serving as Celebrant. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompson. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 15, 2009 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gloria B. Rodriguez, her brothers Robert Cruz and Salvador Barbosa.
She is survived by her loving husband Gustavo "Gus" Arredondo of Nederland, daughter Tonya Richard and husband Brian of Nederland, son Marty Arredondo and wife Susan of Beaumont, six grandchildren Holly Fornols, Sean Suarez, Larry Gustavo Suarez, Shelby Suarez, Chelsea Owens, Clara Torres and step grandson Justin Richard, six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Rufina B. Rodriuez of Nederland and Mayme B. Wekkin of Klamath Falls, Oregon as well as several nieces and nephews.
