Janet Claire Barbour Amos died unexpectedly last weekend at home of natural causes.

She was born in Boise on March 10, 1949 – a ray of sunshine at the end of a bitterly cold winter. She was the only daughter of Bob and Rosalie Barbour. As a young girl, she was recognizable by her blonde ponytail. She loved getting her brothers to dress up for staged pictures, and especially enjoyed tea parties with her baby brothers. Like most girls, "Janny" was and always will be the apple of her daddy's eye.

She attended McKinley Elementary, West Jr. High and graduated from Borah High in 1967. No different than any other teenage girl in her generation, she loved the Beatles and the Beach Boys. She was a member of the National Honor Society, and her brothers admit - when they're being honest - that she was the best student in the family.

She was a cheerleader throughout her years at West and Borah, and was named Miss Borah at the Junior/Senior Prom. After graduation, she attended Boise College (now Boise State University) and proudly cheered her Broncos as a member of their cheerleading squad. (And even though she was cheering for the wrong school, her proud Vandal father remained her most ardent supporter.)

In 1968, she married Bob Hall. From that union, she brought two beautiful tow-headed children into the world: Joseph Robert in 1970 and Charlene Claire in 1973.

Following her divorce from Bob, she later married Al Galloway. After Al's death, she wed Terry Amos, of Meridian. In recent years, Terry and Janet enjoyed fishing and spending time at his cabin in McCall, as well as traveling. They remained close friends, even after their divorce.

Janet spent over 30 years in the banking world. Her career at US Bank spanned many name changes (Idaho First National Bank, and later, West One). She was very proud of her association with the bank, as her grandfather, Robert Barbour, Sr. was a long-time Vice President at Idaho First. She was at the bank during not one, but two armed robberies. In both instances, she bravely and calmly kept her composure, assuring her co-workers and anxious customers – even when a gun was pointed at her.

Janet adored her four grandchildren. She was fortunate to live near two of them, so she spent much quality time with Brennan and Braylee at the swimming pool and at sleepovers at her condo.

Shortly before her death, her son Joe and his sweet boys visited from South Dakota. None of us could have known it would be the last visit J.J. and Brandon would have with their Grandma. Many happy memories were made during that providential week!

Janet was at her best when she was a cheerleader for all of the loved ones in her life.

We are all saddened by Janet's unexpected passing. She is survived by her loving parents, Bob and Rosalie Barbour, of Boise; son, Joe Hall, Dell Rapids, SD; daughter, Char Hall Benger, Boise (Bill); brothers, Tom Barbour, Murrieta, CA (Suzi), Don Barbour, Myrtle Beach, SC (Manuela) and Bill Barbour, Boise; aunt, Dorothy Brassey, Boise; uncle, Bill Gray, Lemon Grove, CA; nephew, Kelly, nieces, Bridgit, Sara, Megan, Shelby, Katy, Joy and Leslie; seven grandnephews and grandnieces; cousins from both the Brassey and Gray families, and of course, "the most beautiful grandchildren in the whole world", Brennan and Braylee Benger and J.J. and Brandon Hall.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gladys and Robert Barbour, Sr., of Boise and Charles and Claire Gray, of San Diego.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 10, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Summers Funeral Home, 1205 W. Bannock Street, Boise. Private family burial will be at Dry Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to the Boise VA Medical Center, 500 Fort St., Boise, ID 83702.
