OBITUARY FOR EFFIE BARKER, taken from The Edna Sun, Edna, Kansas on April 6, 1922:
Miss Effie Barker was born at Kinnison, Okla.**, Feb. 13, 1888, and died at Douglas, Kansas, on March 31, 1922. Thus living to the age of 31 years, 1 month and 18 days. She leaves a father, seven brothers and a number of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. She was greatly loved by all who knew her, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She united with the Christian church in Chillcothe, Mo. 13 years ago. But later united with the Baptist church at Welch, Okla., and remained a member of that church until three years ago, at which time she moved to Douglas, Kansas, and became a member of the Christian church.
The body arrived in Edna Sunday evening and was taken to the home of a brother, Fred Barker.
The funeral took place at the Walker cemetery Monday at 8 o'clock, Rev. J.N. Varnell preaching the funeral sermon.
Note**: Kinnison Oklahoma [Sec. 7 T28N R20E] was located in Craig County, Oklahoma, 10 miles NW of Welch and was in Cherokee Nation Territory. There was a Post Office and Mercantile business ran by Presley Bell and Austaphine Cherokee (nee Land) Kinnison. P.B. (as he was called) was the first Post Master Indian Territory - opened September 13, 1886. The Post Office closed - February 28, 1922. P.B. was later President of the Welch State Bank.
