Amanda J. Barkley, 101, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, in Midland. Viewing will be from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, in Robert Massie Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Paul Shero of the Southgate Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be grandsons Dub Ivy, Jack Ivy Jr., Ryan Mullens, Jake Mullens, Russell Garlick, Hanie Ivy Jr., Milton Bennett and Joby Bryand. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her Christian Brothers of Southgate Church of Christ.

Amanda was born in a covered wagon on July 22, 1910, in Melrose, N.M. to W.Z. and Kate (Hooten) Moore. Soon after, her family moved to Shamrock, Texas. She married Dee Ivy of Lometa, Texas, in 1928. To this union three sons were born, Kenneth, Jack and Hanie. Dee passed away in 1942, and later she married H.B. Dunagan in Midland. H.B. passed away in 1954, and then she married Al Barkley in 1962. The lived at Lake Buchanan and they enjoyed fishing, entertaining all their children, grandchildren, and many friends. Al passed away in 1982, she moved to San Angelo in 1984, and was a faithful member of the Southgate Church of Christ.

Amanda was preceded in death by her sons, Kenneth Ivy and Hanie Ivy; parents; three grandchilden; and one great-grandson; siblings Ina Gragston, Marie Williams, Ed Moore, Taylor Moore, Buck Moore and Glynn Smallwood. Amanda is survived by her son, Jack Ivy of Balmorhea; one brother, Lynn Smallwood of Charleston, S.C.; daughter-in-law Dona wife of the Late Hanie Ivy of San Angelo; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Amanda's 101 years of living were full of happy, sad, and exciting stories one could tell. She was a Christian woman, a friend to everyone she ever met and never forgot them. She was still maintaining her home in San Angelo up until the time of her passing. She was quite a remarkable strong-willed woman.
