Mrs. Floride McBee Barksdale, 90, formerly of Jackson, MS and wife of the late Henry Edward Barksdale, died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Cabrini Hospital, Alexandria, LA.

She was born at 307 Pettigru Street, Greenville, South Carolina on December 5,1921. She was the daughter of Luther Martin McBee, Jr. and Floride Bonneau Smith McBee. Her maternal grandparents were Augusta Wardlaw Smith and Mary Bratton Noble Smith. Her paternal grandparents were Alexander McBee and Anna Crosswell McBee. Her older brother Luther Martin McBee III-"Luke"­ passed away in 2008. All were from South Carolina.

"Frisco" as she was known to those who knew her went to Hayne Elementary School, and graduated from Greenville High School in 1938. She was a cheerleader and vice president of the student body. She graduated from Converse College in 1942.

She married Henry W. Stephenson in 1945 and moved to Jackson, MS in 1946. In 1962, she married Henry E. Barksdale who passed in 1971.

She was a member of the Junior League and enjoyed the Calliope Club and the Bachelors and Benedict Club.

Surviving are two children.

When asked by family and friends how she got the nickname "Frisco" she said: "I was 14 and invited to a dance at Davidson College. Rode the train down from Greenville. Every girl had their corner and dance cards. I drank cokes and danced almost all night to a new dance the "frisco flo". I've been "Frisco" ever since."

Some may remember the good times and the warm summer afternoons on the Ross Barnett Reservoir in the 1960's on the family houseboat the "Frisco".

Our Mother was famous for her warm and vivacious personality. "Frisco" never met a stranger.

In lieu of Flowers the family wishes that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 3717 Government St # 7, Alexandria,LA71302.

Services will be at a later date with burial in Lakewood Memorial Cemetery, Jackson, Mississippi.
