Schurz Crash Fatal To Pilot
"Navy officials said today that the body of LT Allen Donald Barksdale had been found in the wreckage of his plane near Fallon (Churchill County, NV).
Lieutenant Barksdale, attached to technical air patrol squadron 1, was reported missing Wednesday afternoon (29 Jun 1953) when he was overdue from returning from a routine flight.
Members of the Fallon Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, Elmo Whitmire and Wendall Wheat, spotted the wreckage at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, North of Schurz (Mineral County, NV), between Highway 95 and Weber Reservoir on the Walker River.
Ground crews from Fallon Navy Auxillary Landing Field and members of the Civil Air Patrol jeep squadron removed the pilots body from the wreckage this morning.
Lieutenant Barksdale, 27, was piloting a Douglas Skyraider. He is survived by his widow, Harriet Eden Barksdale, who lives in Oakland, and three children."
