BARNES BODY TO REST AT MASONIC TEMPLE

The body of Edgar Barnes who died at 3:30 at the M.E. hospital Friday afternoon, from injuries sustained by a fall through the elevator shaft at the Masonic temple, was taken to the Patterson undertaking rooms last night. It will be removed to the Masonic temple, Sunday. The deceased had been a member of the Scottish Rite since 1899, when Harper Cunningham and but a few followers put on the degree work on the third floor of the Victor building. Barnes was an energetic man and good citizen. Officers of the Blue lodge have wired a daughter of the deceased, who lives in Ohio, asking her wishes in the matter of burial, but up to 3 o'clock this afternoon no response had been received.

It is likely that a Masonic funeral will be held at the temple at 12 o'clock Sunday night with interment at Summit View, Monday, but details cannot be definitely arranged until the daughter is heard from.

PLUNGE IS FATAL

Edgar P. Barnes, a Guthrie pioneer and 32nd degree Mason was so badly injured shortly before noon Friday when he plunged down the elevator shaft at the Masonic Temple, that he died a few hours later at the Methodist hospital.

Barnes was assistant custodian at the Masonic Temple. He has been painting and assisting in keeping the Temple in order since it was built, Friday morning he was cleaning up after the Maundy-Thursday banquet. He had gathered up two large baskets of victuals which he was going to send to the orphans home. He got hold of the "lift" rope of the elevator on the second floor and gave it a quick jerk. The elevator shot upward and caught Barnes just under the chin, breaking his jaw bone.

The elevator ran on to the top of the building and Barnes partially unconscious, plunged 25 feet to the cement floor of the basement below. One foot was badly crushed and his body severely bruised. He was unconscious when found and was hurried to the Methodist Hospital where medical aid was summoned. Barnes lived only a few hours, dying at three o'clock yesterday afternoon. He was fully conscious just before death came.

Edgar Barnes was 60 years of age. He has lived in Guthrie since the opening and has been prominent in Masonic circles. A daughter in Ohio has been notified of the death and until word is received from her, no funeral arrangements will be made. The Masons will have charge whenever the funeral is held.

Mr. Barnes has made his home near Guthrie with a niece for a number of years.
