Mrs. Roy L. Arnold, 63, of 438 S. Ringold St., prominent in women’s club activities and Masonic circles, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday in Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.

As chairman of the crafts division, Wisconsin First District Federation of Women’s Clubs she was in charge of setting up the Federation-Vogue sewing contest to be held at the YWCA Tuesday and was to participate in the First District convention in Racine April 15.

Long a member of the First District board she worked on assembling Wisconsin’s Own Library, a state federation project which provided the executive mansion library with books by Badger authors.

Mrs. Arnold served as grand president of the United Commercial Travelers Auxiliary of Wisconsin, 1934-35, after having been local auxiliary president and grand page.

She was a member of Janesville Woman’s Club; past president of McDowell Club; past matron of order of Eastern Star, past president of QES Study Class; past high priestess of Zion White Shrine and a member of Philomanthian Club. She attended Cargill Methodist Church.

The former Esther J. Barnum, a Janesville resident for 40 years, was born Nov. 15, 1894, in Rock County, daughter of Timothy L. and Clymena Hurley Barnum. She was married to Roy L. Arnold July 16, 1921, in Rockford.

Surviving are her husband; one son, Roger B. Arnold, Delavan; two granddaughters, Christine Ann and Ellyn Louise, and a grandson, Timothy Charles Arnold; an uncle, Edward Hurley, Monroe; an aunt, Mrs. Nancy Then, Orfordville.
