Ellen "Babe" Barnum Abney, 77, departed September 10, 2012, in Moss Point, MS, surrounded by her family. She was born October 22, 1934, in Pascagoula, MS to Norman and Rosa (Krebs) Barnum, Sr.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Norman Sr. and Rosa, Gertrude Edwards, five sisters, and four brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memories her sister, Esther B. Green; brother, Herman (Barbara) Barnum; children Deborah DeFlanders Wright (Lanier Lewis), James Abney, Jr., Faith (Darrell) Gaddie, Ellen (Dean) Hardison, Alisa Abney (David) Nance, and Shenell (Thomas) Ellington; grandchildren Stacy (El'Malik) Lewis, LaBaron (Vickie) DeFlanders, Deran DeFlanders, Tiffany Mims, Franco Healy, Dustin Hardison, Avia Healy, Danyel Ellington (Octavius) Lee, Miriah Ellington, Deana Hardison, Dean Hardison, Jr., James Abney, III; great grandchildren Maegan DeFlanders, Chelesea Steward, Dyjia Hollins, Shirdaria DeFlanders, Dustin Hardison, Jr., Chloe Lee, McKenzie Lee, and Aiden Smith; devoted niece and godchild, Kathleen Green; godchildren Paula Evans, Iris Willis, and Raquel Cook; devoted cousins Fred Cook, III, Dorothy Harvey, and Valerie Wright, lifelong friend Edwine Watson, and faithful friend Dorothy Gates.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, September 15, 2012, 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3702 Quinn Dr., Pascagoula, MS, 39581. Rev. Michael Kelleher, Pastor.
Visitation will be from 9:00–10:45 AM. Rosary recitation will begin at 10:45 AM. Mass will follow immediately with Rev. Charles E. McMahon officiating.
Interment will be in St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church cemetery, Pascagoula, MS.
