CAMPOBELLO, SC-- Charles "BARNEY" Barnwell, 58, of 5015 Rainbow Lake Road, Campobello, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011. A native of Campobello, he was born December 6, 1952. He was the husband of Debbie Rhodes Barnwell and the son of Betty Barnwell Hook and the late Robert Burton Barnwell of Gramling. Barney joined the Plum Hollow Band in 1975, he enjoyed singing and entertaining crowds with his fiddle, playing on Plum Hollow Farm in Campobello.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one step-daughter, Christy Miller and her husband Jared of Inman; step-father, Dr. Don Hook of Campobello; one brother, Byron "Red" Barnwell and his wife Lisa of Campobello; two sisters, Beth French and her husband Glenn of Powell, WY, and Betsy Ellington and her husband Kim of Vale, NC; one niece, Betsy French; and one nephew, Jackson Ellington.
Visitation will be held at 2:00 PM till 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the Plum Hollow Farm in Campobello. A tribute to Barney's life will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Ben Herlong, Kerry McSwain, Alan Bowman, Roy Flynn, and Wanda Hyder officiating. All public, family, friends, and neighbors are welcome to attend.
Pallbearers will be Jared Miller, Brian Teague, Josh Owens, Bill Canney, Stephen Smith, and Dustin Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be the Plum Hollow Band.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Pilgrim Baptist Church, 5040 Rainbow Lake Road, Campobello, SC 29322; or Hollywild Animal Park, 2325 Hampton Road, Inman, SC 29349.
The family will be at their respective homes- Debbie and Barney's and his mother's, Betty Barnwell Hook .
