Betty Baron, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home with family and friends at her bedside. She was born in Sicily and came to the U.S. in 1927. She first lived in Ohio, then moved to L.A. in 1934. She was a 1944 graduate of UCLA with honors and Phi Beta Kappa. While there she met the love of her life, Henry Baron, and they married in 1947. They moved to Monterey in 1948. She taught English to the foreign-born, mostly wives of the local fishermen in the evening division, 1948-1949, then taught English and Spanish at Monterey High School, 1953 and 1962. She took over her husband's evening French class at MPC from 1965-1977. She was active in many local organizations during her life here... Monterey Red Cross Board, Monterey County Symphony Board and Couserie Française. Her love of tennis led to the management of Meadowbrook Swim and Tennis Club from 1980 to 2001 and she was a member of their Board of Directors until her death. She had a great love of family, friends, music and physical fitness. She loved helping others. She is survived by her husband Henry Baron, daughter Lisa Baron, son-in-law Frank Christie, and her sister Mary Prellwitz. She was preceded in death by her grandson Dylan Baron Reynolds (12/25/1979-12/8/1998) and Salinas, CA born son Alan Baron (6/5/1949-11/4/2000). Memorial Services will be held Saturday, June 26, 2004 a noon at Mission Memorial Park Chapel in Seaside. Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of the Central Coast or donor's favorite charity.
