1926 - 2014
Robert K. Barrow passed away at his home in Springfield, Oregon on March 18, 2014. His son, Curtis Barrow and his daughter, Laura Cox were with him, including his son-in-law, Stan Cox. His grandchildren, Alexandra Rowlett, Jonathan her husband and their two children, adored great-grandsons, Malakai and Liam were also there.
His grandson, Andrew Cox, who currently resides in Washington, was unable to be present.
Our Dad was born April 24, 1926 in Marshfield, Oregon; now known as Coos Bay. He was the son of William and Lorna Barrow. He attended Marshfield High School and graduated ahead of his class of 1944 so he could enlist in the Navy during World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater on the Island of Guam.
He was honorably discharged in 1946. Dad then returned to attend Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon for his teaching credentials. Later, going onto earn his Master's degree in Education.
Dad married our mother, Marjorie Ruth Cox in 1951. They were divorced in 1964. One of Dad's greatest accomplishments was the raising of his two children. He is best remembered for his teaching of General Science at Hamlin Middle School in Springfield for almost 3 decades.
At the time of his death he was the oldest member of the Eugene Aeronautics, a radio control club for flying RC model airplanes; a hobby he enjoyed his entire life.
A memorial Mass will be held for Papa Bob at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1062 Charnelton St. on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 12:15 pm.
There will be a Color Guard Presentation at 3:00 pm that same afternoon at Springfield Memorial Gardens, located at 7305 Main St. in Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes a donation to be made to: St. Mary Catholic Church: Steubenville Retreat.
