Sauber, Dulce Maria "Marie" CHULA VISTA -- Dulce Maria "Marie" Sauber passed away peacefully on November 13, 2013. She was born October 19, 1926 in Hong Kong (B.C.C.) to Vasco and Beatriz Barradas. Marie took up judo as a means of self defense and ended up joining the Hong Kong Woman's Auxiliary Army Corps, a branch of the Royal Hong Kong Defense Force, and was promoted to Sergeant in 2 years. In 1946, she met the love her life, Frederick Lee Sauber, who was in the Navy and was deployed. They married on December 18, 1953, in Hong Kong. The Navy moved them and they ended up planting their roots in Chula Vista, California in 1965. Marie was involved in Chula Vista's Newcomer's Club, Girls Club, and PTA (elementary, junior high and high school) as well as 9th District PTA. In addition to PTA, Marie was also involved with school safety patrol, at first with her children, and then again with her grandchildren. Marie's entire family attended Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church in Chula Vista from 1967. Marie was also the Principal of St. Rose of Lima's Religious Education Program for middle school children for many years. In 1985, Marie and seven others formed the Traffic Control Ministry at St. Rose. It was the first of its kind at the time. She retired from the Traffic Control Ministry in 2008. Marie, predeceased by her husband, Fred, is survived by her 3 children: David (and Patricia) Sauber of Chula Vista; Michele (and Chris) Uhlik of Chula Vista, and Frederica Sauber of North Highlands, California; 7 grandchildren, 4 great- grandchildren, and 2 brothers, Vascin Barradas (of Long Beach, CA) and David Barradas (of Daly City, CA). A visitation is planned for Sunday, November 24th, from 4 - 9 p.m., to include a rosary at 7 p.m., at Community Mortuary, in Chula Vista. A funeral mass will be held Monday, November 25th, at 11 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Church, in Chula Vista. Marie will be laid to rest at La Vista Memorial Park.
