Son of James William and Sarah Hannah (Howard) Barratt, of 11 Monkhams Avenue, Woodford Green, Essex.

Arthur studied at Bancroft from 1904-1909. Later he was a Private in the Territorial RAMC, and arrived in France on 16th January 1915. His unit was attached to 85 Brigade which was involved in the fighting at the Battle of Ypres and Hill 60 in April/May 1915.

He contracted blood poisoning and died in the hospital where he worked.
