The birth date above is taken from his citizenship papers. Son of Jean Baptiste and Marguerite (Mailhot) Baril who married, on 7 January 1818, in St-Pierre-les-Becquets, Quebec, Canada. Jean Baptiste Baril was the son of Joseph Baril and Charlotte (Beaufort). Marguerite Mailhot was the daughter of Modeste(?) Mailhot and Catherine (Lafleur). In Drouin, Edward's baptism is shown: Edouard Methode Baril, son of Jean Baptiste Baril and his wife Marguerite Mailhot, was baptized on 30 December 1825, in Deschaillons, Quebec, Canada.

Although some records give Edward's birth place as Canada, Lunenburg, VT, or St. Johnsbury VT, it is worth noting that he applied for U.S. Citizenship in Boston, Mass., in October 1853, and, on that document, he represented that he was born in Quebec Province, Canada, on 27 December 1825, and that he entered Burlington, Vermont, on or about 25 October 1838. It further states that he is living in Sutton, Mass., working as a shoemaker, which clearly corresponds to this Edward M. Barry. All this matches the fact that he is listed as having been born in Canada on the earlier Census reports I've found, although later in life, he used St. Johnsbury/Lunenburg VT as his birth place.

Edward married Hannah M. (Lowe?), prior to 1850 Census. Hannah was born in Canton (or Stoughton), Mass.
Their daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Barry, was born, on 11 December 1850, in Bellingham, Mass., and died, on 13 December 1853, in Sutton, Mass.
Their daughter, Emma Josephene, was born, on 11 February 1854, in Sutton, Mass. She married Winfield S. Gompf, on 24 January 1872, in Springfield, Mass. Emma died on 8 August 1910, in New York City, N.Y.
Their daughter, Flora Agusta Barry, was born, on 15 February 1857, in Sutton, Mass., and died, on 25 July 1864, in Uxbridge, Mass. She was buried in Sutton, Mass.
Their son, Dexter C. Barry, was born, on 23 November 1860, in Grafton, Mass., and died, on 15 September 1861, in Grafton, Mass. He was buried in Sutton, Mass.

Edward married Harriet A. "Hattie" (Cook) Fuller, on 7 March 1878, in Millbury (or possibly Grafton), Mass. It was the second marriage for each. Harriet was born in Winsted, Conn., the daughter of Merrit and Lucinda (Putnam) Cook. Hattie had married, first, Sumner P. Fuller, in Sutton, Mass., on 23 August 1848. Hattie died, on 20 February 1884, in Grafton, Mass. She is not buried with Sumner, as he was a Private with Co. D, 37th Massachusetts Infantry, and died, on 13 August 1864, at Andersonville Prison, Andersonville, Georgia where he is buried. According to her death record, Harriet is buried in Sutton, Mass. (possibly with her parents or her mother's family?).

Edward married Tamar Elizabeth (Wheelock) Eames, on 31 January 1885, in Upton, Mass. It was his third marriage, and her second.

Edward's sister Eulalie Baril married John DuBois, later Wood. The siblings often lived near each other, and their parents and maternal grandmother, Catherine (Lafleur) Mailhot, also lived next to, and with, John and Eulalie Wood. Eventually the Woods moved to Michigan. I haven't been able to ascertain whether John Baptiste Baril/Barry/Berry/Bell and Catherine Mailhot died in New England, or moved to Michigan also. Margaret/Marguerite/Maggie is a widow, living with her daughter, Eulalie Wood, and her family, in Detroit MI, in the 1880 US Census, and may have died in Detroit, on 7 September 1884.
