Alvin R. Barry Sr., of Weymouth, formerly of Savin Hill, passed away August 6, 2011. Beloved husband of the late Estelle (Johnson) Barry. Loving son of the late John (BPD) and Alice Barry. Devoted father of Jeanne M. Barry-Lydon and her husband Kevin of Weymouth, Alvin R. Barry Jr. and his wife Mary of Boston and the late James P. Barry. Cherished grandfather of Allison, Amy, Michael, Jessica and Jenise. Loving brother of the late Dr. John Barry, Charles Barry (BPD), Paul Barry and James Barry (BPD). Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Alvin proudly served in both the U.S Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. He worked as a construction laborer for 35 years as a member of the Laborers International Union of North America, Local 223, where he held the positions of President and Assistant Business Manager. He was a season ticket holder for Boston College football games and also enjoyed painting houses and vacationing in New Hampshire.
Funeral was from the McDonald Funeral Home, South Weymouth, at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hosp.) Tuesday, August 9 at 8:30 a.m. Funeral Mass to follow in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 a.m. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alvin may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O Box 14301, Cincinati, OH 45250.
