Affie Hammond Barry, 92, died Friday (Dec. 27, 1991) in her home on Shaw Road in the Town of West Sparta following a long illness.

Born in Anderson County, Kentucky, on Mar. 8, 1899, she was a daughter of Millard F. and Mary Frances McBrayer Hammond. She was married on May 18, 1947.

A Women's Army Corps (WAC) Sergeant during World War II, she served in New Guinea, Australia and the Phillippines and received the Phillippines Liberation Campaign Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon with two Bronze Stars. She was a member of Springwater American Legion Post 905 and a life member of VFW Post 8780 in Dansville. Mrs. Barry was a charter member of the Livingston-Steuben County Genealogical Society and was a charter member of the Nunda Ambulance Corps.

Mrs. Barry was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and of Midway College in Kentucky where she was listed as one of the oldest alumni. She had been an advertising executive for New York City agencies and was a retired school teacher, having been on the faculties in Florida and New York State.
