Charles Amos 'Chic' Bartine was born December 1, 1906 north of Clemos. He received his education I Clemons, South Dakota and Zearing, graduating from Zearing High School in 1924. He attended business college in Marshalltown. He was a bookkeeper for the Moore-Eldridge Gravel Contractors of Clemons in the late 1920's.

Chic married Edna Darlene Burns on March 10, 1930. They lived in Waterloo, Iowa and he worked at Raths for about 15 years. They then moved to Clemons and farmed the home place for seven years. Later they moved to St Anthoy and farmed.

In 1960 they bought the tavern in St Anthony and operated the restaurant/tavern business for nine years. Chic died of cancer in January of 1969. Darlene continued to own and operate the business until 1972.

Chic and Darlene were the parents of five children: Ardiss, Patricia, Charles R (Dick), Barbara and Michael.
