Arnold served as a Private, Headquarters Squadron, 27th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Washington County, Vermont prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 21, 1940, prior to the war, in Montpelier, Vermont. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a mechanic and also as Single, without dependents.

Arnold "Died While A POW" of the Japanese Army at POW Camp 1, Cabanatuan, Nueva Province, Luzon, Philippines during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on October 22, 1949.
