MARSHFIELD - Robert D. Bates, 72, of Marshfield, a veteran of the Air Force, died Thursday at home.
Born in Boston, Mr. Bates graduated from Cambridge schools and enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. He served in Cheyenne, Wyo.
After his discharge, he was an engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement.
Mr. Bates was a Mayflower descendant.
He is survived by a brother, Richard F. Bates of Walpole; a sister, Nancy Letham of Walpole; four nieces; four nephews; nine grandnieces; and four grandnephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Arrangements were made by the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Marshfield."
