Nancy R. Moran Bates, 70, of Quiet Dell, and formerly of Fairmont, passed away Tuesday morning, March 18, 2014, in the United Hospital Center. She was born in Fairmont on November 24, 1943, and grew up in Wilsonburg, a daughter of the late James Leonard Moran and Lillie Estelle Compton Moran.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Larry T. Bates, whom she married on January 31, 1962.
Also surviving are two children, Marta Hodge and her husband Mike of Bridgeport and Stephen Bates and his wife Debbie of Fairfax, VA; four grandchildren, Jeremy Hodge, Malinda Hodge, William Bates and Daniel Bates; one brother, James O. Moran and his wife Judy of Middletown, MD; three sisters, Geraldine Ashcraft and her husband Fred of Clarksburg, Irene Oliveto of Moundsville and Reva Williams and her husband Allen of Winchester, VA; and several nieces and nephews; an uncle, Otha "Junior" Compton and his wife Betty, Bridgeport; and an aunt, Doris Potter and her husband Raymond of Sugarland, Texas.
Nancy was a graduate of Victory High School Class of 1961 and also attended Fairmont State University. She was a member of the Reynoldsville Baptist Church and also a member of Fairmont Chapter No. 34, Order of the Eastern Star. She loved reading and doing yard work, and especially loved to garden.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, where services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, March 22, 2014, with Reverend Dr. Michael Richards presiding. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
