The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, July 17, 1947

Fay Francis (sic) Bates, the daughter of Otis and Verda Bates, was born May 8, 1908, on a farm near Clarks, Nebraska, and departed this life from the Kearney Hospital July 10, 1947, at the age of 39 years, two months and two days. When eight years of age she moved with her parents to Lexington, Nebraska. Here she grew to young womanhood and then about the year 1924 they moved to Oak, Nebraska.

On September 11, 1928, at Nelson, she was united in marriage to Clark Anderson. They established their home on a farm near Oak.

Four children were born to this union: Betty Jean, Clarence, Alfred and Carl, all of whom are at home. Mrs. Anderson has been ill for a number of years, but she was a patient sufferer through it all. She was a devoted wife and mother and even a few days before her death she was planning to come home.

Mrs. Anderson leaves to mourn her passing, her husband and the four children, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Bates of near Grand Island. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Eva Rehere of Grand Island, and three brothers Robert of Los Angeles, California, and Donald and Virgil of Grand Island.

Good night, sleep well, beloeved, when at last
Slow dusk has fallen, and your steps no more
Make music on the empty upper floor,
And day is fully past.
We who so lightly let you go alone,
Evening by evening, from our trustful sight
Into the mystery of sleep's unknown,
We need not fear to-night.
Death is so gentle--dark will break to dawn,
Love will be safe until the morning light,
Sleep well, good-night! ---Nancy Byrd Turner

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock in the Oak Church, and were in charge of Rev. Clarence V. Powell. Music was furnished by a ladies quartet: Mrs. Ellen Wheeler, Mrs. John Scroggin, Mrs. Jim Moore and Mrs. Ruth Snyder. Mrs. Nova Moore presided at the piano.

The pallbearers were Elmer Anderson, Vernon Schoof, Melvin Judy, Harry Warneking, Harold Runge and John Horst. Interment was in the Ruskin cemetery.
