Maude Catherine Batson Allen, of 317 Hamby St., widow of Ernest Ray Allen Sr., died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at her home. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Dawson Dalton and Claudia Ree King Batson. She retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.
Surviving are sons, Ernest Ray "Ernie Ray" Allen Sr., and Raymond Clyde Allen, both of Greenville, and John Lewis Allen of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Barbara Allen of Greenville; sister, Daisy B. Hamby of North Augusta; grandchildren, Samantha McClellan, Billy Joe Hammond Jr., Cody Allen, Dalton Allen and Michelle Allen; and great-grandchildren, Sommur Hammond, Sheena Hammond and Timothy Wade McClellan. She was predeceased by a daughter, Thelma Faye Hammond, and a brother, Perry P. Batson.
Funeral services will be 11am Tuesday at Rehoboth Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve George, Dr. Niki Ballew and the Rev. Ansel Gambrell with burial following in Rehoboth Church Cemetery. The family is at the home and will receive friends 7-8:30pm today at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The Greenville News on Feb. 26, 2001.
