Effie L. Batson

Effie L. Batson went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday Nov. 21, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and a homemaker who loved life and people.

She was born Jan. 20, 1920, in Princeton, W.Va., a daughter of the late John Wesley and Lillie Grishaw Morrison.

She is survived by three daughters, Ms. Patsy Bennett of Washington, June Martin and husband, David, of Princeton and Vickie Veath and husband, Michael, of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter-in-law, Carrie Batson of Baltimore; one stepdaughter, Elizabeth Poe of Princeton; one sister, Edna Fitzwater of Elizabeth City, N.C.; grandchildren, Sherri Wease, Serena Kimble and husband, Gary, Dwight Stauffer and wife, Stephanie, Michael Davis and wife, Melinda, Donna Jarrell and husband, Brett, Randi Watkins and husband, Daniel, Kimberly Cook and husband, Scott, Kristy Keatley, Andrea Sorrentino and husband, Chris, Elizabeth Batson, Daniel Batson, Michelle Veath, Amanda Veath and Debra Burdette; great-grandchildren, Amber Wease, Dustin and Misti Kimble, Andrew Stauffer, Travis and Aaron Davis, Chanz and Cody Jarrell, Brandon and Brittany Sindledecker, Amanda Cook, Cody Keatley, Kaleigh Martin, Evan Sorrentino, Nicholas and Michael Easton and Shellie Jarrell; great-great-grandchild, Rylee Cruz; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil P. Hamm; her second husband, George Batson; one son, David M. Batson; two sisters; five brothers; and one infant granddaughter.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Scott Stewart and Scott Cook officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home
