--2nd of 13 children of Rev. Thomas Battle and wife Mary "Polly" Baker. The Battles moved from Warren County to Monroe County about 1821.
--Martha married #1 Needham R. Bryan on March 14, 1833 in Monroe County. The couple lived in Stewart County a few years, then moved to Monroe County. They had 4 children: Mary Josephine, Thomas Battle, Martha Antoinette, and Needham Rupert Bryan, Jr.
--Following the death of her husband Needham, Martha married #2 William Asbury Banks on December 20, 1842 in Monroe County. This marriage produced 6 children: 1.John William Banks, 2. Calvin Williams Battle Banks, 3. Louisa Marian Banks, 4. James Asbury Banks, 5. Robert Henry Banks, and 6. George Thomas Banks.
