B-25J #43-36150 took off from Lingayen Air Strip, Luzon, Philippines on a strike mission in the Gulf of Tonkin, off Hainan island, China. They were hit by either ground anti-aircraft fire or were hit by Japanese aircraft which knocked out one of their engines. The crashed into the sea with no survivors.

Christian was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart
