Verna was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Funks Grove, a daughter of Thomas J. Baumgardner and Tillie Reitz Baumgardner. She came to Bloomington as a young woman and has been a resident since.
Verna was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for more than 50 years and had been one of the oldest members there. On June 24, 1933, she married Emil John Anderson at the First English Lutheran Church in Bloomington, now named St. John's Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1966. In her later years, Verna's greatest pleasure came from her frequent drives to Funks Grove, where she would enjoy remembering her childhood there with her parents; brothers, Chester and Edison; sisters, Beulah and Irene; and her many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Verna is survived by daughter, Carol (David) Johnson, Bloomington; four grandchildren, Christine Zak, Woodland Hills, Calif.; Amy Johnson, Manhattan Beach, Calif.; Ellen Davis, Rantoul; and Kara Johnson, Bloomington; one great-grandchild, Tiffany Davis; and a nephew, Glenn Yates, Jacksonville, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, two sisters and a nephew, Jan Yates.
