Miriam Altman

Miriam Baxley Altman, 88, of Hemingway, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 at her residence.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at 3 p.m. at the Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Old Johnsonville Cemetery.

Mrs. Altman was born in Johnsonville, a daughter of the late Fleetwood Orin and Sudie Odean Humphries Baxley. She was a graduate of Indiantown High School. The widow of Delwood Altman, she was a homemaker and a member of the Johnsonville Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are a son, Michael Kelvin Altman of Hemingway; two grandchildren, Jewell Amanda Rouse and Mark Kevin Altman, both of Hemingway; four step-children, Bobbie Jane Baxley of Johnsonville, Carol Altman of Hemingway, J.V. Altman of Lake City and Waren Altman of Charleston; 13 step-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothia B. Thompson of Goose Creek, and Genevieve B. Bennett and Janie Lou B Morris, both of Hemingway.

She was predeceased by a step-son, O.D. Altman; three brothers, Allen W. Baxley, Thomas O. Baxley and Dathan Baxley; and a sister Willa Dean B. Holt.
