New Iberia—Alicia Bayard, age 84, a native of Coteau passed away on Friday October 24, 2014 at 7:40am at her residence in New Iberia surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Baron Bayard Sr., the former Alicia Lopez, age 84, on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help with Father Mark Derise officiating and musical accompaniment by Stephanie Hoffpauir and Janet Sinitere.
Reading from sacred scripture will be Ashley Poirrier and Alicia Sherwood. Gift bearers will be Keisha Aker and Brittney Landry.
Interment will follow in Beau Pre’ Mausoleum in Jeanerette.
She loved cooking for her family during the holidays, attending Mass and chapel, and playing at the casino.
She is survived by her husband, Baron Bayard Sr. of New Iberia; children, Katherine Broussard and husband Keith of New Iberia, John A. Bayard and wife Nanette of New Iberia, Sherry A. Bayard of New Iberia, Marjorie “Nikki” Poirrier and husband Mark of New Iberia; brothers, Preston Lopez and wife Jean of New Iberia, Lester Lopez and wife Cynthia of New Iberia, Bobby Lopez and wife Trudy of Lake Charles; sisters, Anna Mae Blanchard of Florida, Mary Copell and husband Wayne of New Iberia; grandchildren, Keisha Aker and husband Matt of North Carolina, Alicia Sherwood and husband Kevin of Montana, Keith Broussard Jr. of New Iberia, Laura Bayard of Oregon, Cecil Bayard of New Iberia, Broc Richard and companion Jennifer Umphries of New Iberia, Brittney Landry and husband Ty of New Iberia, Ashley Poirrier and companion Colby Hebert of New Iberia, and Ridge Poirrier of Baton Rouge; and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleus Lopez and Amelia Leblanc Lopez; son, Baron J. Bayard Jr.; and two sisters, Verla Murasack and Una Maxwell.
Pallbearers will be Keith Broussard Jr., Broc Richard, Cecil Bayard, Ridge Poirrier, Keith Broussard Sr., and Mark Poirrier.
Honorary pallbearers will be George Stokes, Cole Aker, Blaine Aker, Kyle Broussard, Ian Broussard, Eli Sherwood, Luke Sherwood, and Noah Richard.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Carl Ditch and his staff for the compassionate care over the years, the LTAC unit at Iberia Medical Center, and Hospice Compassus for the excellent care given to Mrs. Bayard.
