History of Newbury, Vermont notes this internment as a Revolutionary Soldier. His widow Sarah wrote in her pension application (granted as W.19092): they married 10th day of June 1781 at Newbury when she was 15 years 7 months old, called Sally; James was taken prisoner to Montreal by British 17 June 1782; he returned home 17 January 1783; was killed in a raft of logs in the Connecticut River April 18, 1784.
