SSGT Donald Earl Bear's tour of duty began on December 1, 1967. SSGT Bear was assigned to B Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. SSGT Bear died from injuries received while on combat operations when engaged hostile forces in a firefight. Four servicemen died in the incident. SSGT Bear was married and the father of three children. SSGT Bear's name is engraved on Panel 53W, Line 42 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
