Mr. Cecil Calvin “Red” Beasley, 87, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday evening, April 29, 2016, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Beasley was born September 23, 1928, one of three sons born to the late Walter Frank and Effie Mosley Beasley. He retired as a superintendent from Vulcan Materials after 39 years of service and was the founder of Red’s Fish Lake. He was a dedicated Christian and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He faithfully served the church in many roles, including a deacon and the music ministry (choir director, pianist, and organist) for 60 years. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Faye Woodruff Beasley of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Steve Bickers of Leland; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis Beasley of Raleigh and Mike and Janice Beasley of Mount Airy; his grandchildren, Brian Beasley and Brad Beasley, both of Mount Airy, Shane Easter of Leland, Chris Beasley and Stephanie Beasley, both of Raleigh, Lara Johnson of Elizabethtown, and Chad Bickers and Cristi Nunn, both of Durham; and fifteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Beasley was preceded in death by a twin brother, Hassell Elvin Beasley; and a brother, Glenn Beasley. A service of worship and celebration of Red’s life will be held Sunday, May 1, 2016, at 3:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark A. Reece, Jr. and the Rev. Kermit L. Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the Skilled Nursing Staff at Northern Hospital of Surry County, the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, and Dr. Catalin M. Burciu. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, P.O.
