Barry was a Pender High School graduate, serving two years in the US Army immediatly after graduation. Barry returned to Pender County to be close to his family and friends. He started a flooring company and later went into business with his brother, Travis. He loved spending time with his family and was a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews. From the time he was a small boy he had a gleam in his eye and a smile that could outshine the sun. He brightened each day with his quick wit and loving ways. Barry was the best of friends and would do anything to help his family and loved ones. He was a bright and shining star in the eyes and hearts of his family. His light was so sadly dimmed in the prime of his life. His presence will be sorely missed and he will not be forgotten by those he left behind. Barry is survived by his mother, Gail Penny and her husband, Tom, of Burgaw; his father, Rodney Beattie and his wife, June, of Forsyth, MT; his twin brother, Robert Beattie and wife Suzy of Ft. Sill, OK; brother, Travis Beattie and wife Rebekka of Burgaw; grandmother, Doris Ross and husband Jason of Shallotte; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Barry was suffering from congestive heart failure and had just learned he had only months to live without a heart transplant.
