Derek Raymond "Dirk" Beattie

Derek Beattie, 22, of Albany died Thursday near Brownsville.

He was born in Juneau, Alaska. Derek grew up in Albany, lived briefly in Bend and graduated from South Albany High School in 2004.

He enjoyed all sports and played many sports growing up. At South Albany High School, he was involved in baseball, track, swimming and football, and was lineman of the year his senior year.

Derek enjoyed snowboarding, hunting, camping and being outdoors. He was working at Swords & Shields in Brownsville and living in Eugene. His goal was to receive culinary and business degrees and open his own bar and grill.

He was especially close to his large network of friends.

Derek is survived by parents Ray and Terri Beattie of Albany; grandparents William and Nancy Elder of Silverton; sisters and their husbands Traci and Joe Sears, Tami and Rob Minnick and Misti Beattie, all of Albany; nieces and nephews Justin Drew, Hayli Minnick, Skyler Minnick and Emily Sears; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of the lives of Derek and his friend, Matt Ryan, will be Thursday in the gymnasium at South Albany High School, 3705 Columbus St. S.E.

Contributions maybe made in Derek's name to the Boys & Girls Club of Albany or the Rebel Sports Foundation in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. S.W., Albany, OR 97321.
