Irene was born on June 14, 1923 in Lucasville, Ohio. She was a civilian worker at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio, worked in Vaudeville singing, dancing, and performing daring feats (such as having a bullwhip or a knife pluck a cigarette from her lips!), and also in jewelry sales.
Her community activities included past Madam President of the Eagles Lodge, and volunteering at Saint Vincent De Paul charities.

She was preceded in death by her son, Don Beckett, and grandson, Brandon Bennett.
Irene is survived by her two sons, Cliff Smith of Ohio, and Richard Beckett of Ore.; two daughters, Frances Lee of Colo., and Tammy Walker of Texas; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the care of Hilliard Funeral Home in Van, Texas.
