MRS. ADELE BECKETT, 93, of Wayne, WV, passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center. Funeral services will be Feb. 4, 2009, 11 a.m., at Chapman's Mortuary in Huntington, with Pastors Donald Walker and Trent Eastham officiating.
She was a daughter of the late Pleasant and Frankie Bing Adkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Beckett; son Franklin "Butch" Beckett; and a son-in-law, James Woodrum. She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Woodrum of Elkins, WV; Gail (Virgil) Kelly of Huntington; Barbara (Alan) Meek of Huntington; Nancy (Michael) Land of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and Margaret "Peggy" Beckett of Wayne. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren: James Woodrum, Wendy Adele Bayers, Kris Woodrum, Patricia Bush, Brian Kelly, Cynthia Byrne, Lee Kelly, Laura Blake, Jason Beckett, Meghan Dodrill, Joshua Meek, Andrew Land, Zachary Land, Erik Lund and Emily Lund, as well as 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Iris Botnik of California and Gladys Adkins of Cleveland, Ohio.
Adele was a master seamstress for all of her life and created clothing, costumes and quilts for family and friends. She supported school and community events for more than 70 years by making costumes and props whenever her kids and grandkids and their friends were involved. She was a Christian by faith and was a member of the New Baptist Church in Huntington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Baptist Church Children's Department, 610 28th Street, Huntington, WV.
