Veronica E. Albers, 85, passed away quietly at her home in Oakley on Feb. 6, 1986.
She was born Veronica Elizabeth Beckman on May 17, 1900 at Angelus, Kansas to John "George" and Mary (Dickman) Beckman. She came from a family of seven boys and seven girls and lived in the Angelus-Oakley area her entire life.
On April 23, 1917 she married Joseph A. Albers and to this union six children were born.
Veronica had a special talent for handiwork as evidenced by the quilts, tablecloths, crochet and embroidery work she designed and made for her children and grandchildren.
She loved to play cards with her friends and often did this until her illness prevented her from getting out.
She was a member of the Angelus D of I and later the Oakley D of I and also the St. Joseph's Altar Society.
Veronica had a deep and abiding faith and was a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eulalia, who drowned Aug. 2, 1933 and a son George, who was killed by a horse on June 2, 1936. She endured much but was a shining example of love and forgiveness. Veronica has been called to her eternal home but will always be remembered by those who knew her.
Left behind is her husband, Joe of the home; and four sons: Joe Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bernard of Menlo, Arnold of Colby, and Ralph of Oakley; one sister Agnes Embree of Longmont, Colo.; and one brother Frank Beckman of Oakley; eighteen grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren.
MOTHER, I placed a rose on your crypt today, And I felt that you stood near, You knew the love that I held for you, And you brushed away my tear. The sweetest memories came again crowding one another, Each a jewel in the crown you wear, Most humble queen, My Mother.
