August Beckman, Lodi Area Pioneer, Passes In Oakland
August Beckman, 83, oldest member of a prominent Lodi district family, passed away Tuesday in an Oakland rest home.
Born in Germany on Jan 25, 1876, Mr. Beckman came as a child of five with an older brother, Henry, to Lodi.
Later he became active in farming in the vicinity of the Bear Creek Winery.
He was the youngest of three brothers, Fred, Henry and William, all of whom predeceased him. In addition he was the brother of three sisters, Mary Rorhrbacher, Sophia Eybs and Minnie Koster, all who likewise preceded him in death.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews: Emma Tucker of Stockton, Emma Eybs of San Francisco, Hattie Hernandez of Monterey, Louise Beckman Marion of Stockton, Eugene Beckman of Stockton and Charles Beckman, Bessie Beckman and Carrie Beckman, all of Lodi.
Mr. Beckman spent his entire life in Lodi until seven years ago when he and his sister, Minnie, entered a German rest home in Oakland together. She passed away three years ago.
