Alice E. Speis, daughter of Capt. Christian G. Speis and Catherine E. Mitchell, was born in December 1876, in Rochester, New York. She was the last of this couple's three daughters. Like her sisters, Alice grew up in the Third Ward of Rochester, spending many years living at various addresses on Clarissa Street. Alice was employed in several different jobs; her last job was as a sample maker for a paper box manufacturing company. Alice married Charles Walter Beecher in 1916 in Rochester. They did not have any children. Alice died of tuberculosis, in Rochester, on 5 August 1938. She was only in her 56th year. She was buried in the Speis family plot in Mount Hope Cemetery with her parents. Her sisters Grace and Nellie and her husband Charles would eventually join her.
