In 1900 she and her parents and her eight siblings lived in a place they were renting in Ward 7 in Canton, OH. Her father worked as a glass blower. Three of her siblings worked in rolling mills--Harry as a matcher, Della as a solderer, and James as a scraper.

In 1910 she and her husband and their son lived in a place they were renting in Sharpsburg, PA. He worked as a clerk for a railroad.

In 1920 she and Raymond, their two sons, and her brother William lived in a place they were renting in Ward 19 in Pittsburgh, PA. Raymond worked as a cost clerk for a coal company and William as a bench hand for Pittsburgh Gauge and Supply. Also living with them were four young children, ages one month to five years. Apparently they were foster parents.

In 1940 she and her husband and a lodger, 65-year-old Catherine Danahey, lived in an apartment they were renting for $46 a month at 1816 Tonopah Avenue in Pittsburgh. He worked as a bookkeeper for a coke company, with an income in 1939 of $3600 for 52 weeks of work. Catherine worked as their housekeeper.
