WEST CHAZY — Gerald D. Beggs, 77, of Stratton Hill Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt. He was born in Plattsburgh on Jan. 11, 1935, the son of Warren and Mary (Doty) Beggs.

Gerald was a 1954 graduate of Chazy Central Rural School.

He married Janice M. Brunelle in 1955 at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy.

Gerald was a member of the Chazy Presbyterian Church, where he was a former deacon, trustee and board member. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau and a former member of the Chazy Lion's Club. He was owner and operator of Maple Shade Riding Stables and Dairy Farm for over 50 years. He was also a bus driver for Chazy Central Rural School, a former Chazy town councilor, and a highway superintendent.

Gerald was an avid Yankees baseball fan. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and auctions.

Survivors include his wife, Janice M. Beggs of West Chazy; two sons, James Beggs and his wife Chantelle, and Gerald "Jerry" Beggs and his wife Sharron, all of Ingraham; three daughters, Kathy Russell and her husband Michael of Chazy, Carol and her husband Dr. Victor Castine of Plattsburgh, and Mary Luepke and her husband Patrick of Bonduel, Wisc.; daughter-in-law, Shirley Beggs of Chazy; son-in-law, Neal LaVigne of Mooers; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court St., Plattsburgh.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Chazy Presbyterian Church.

Burial will follow in Ingraham Cemetery in Ingraham.

Memorial donations may be made to Chazy Presbyterian Church.
