Doris Viola Behnke Baerns, age 99, beloved mother, nana and great-nana passed away in peace on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2013. The last of six siblings, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand and Bertha Behnke; husband, Rudolph; and son, Robert. She will be dearly remembered by son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kathi Baerns of Colorado; her caregiver and daughter-in-law, Marleen Baerns of Maryville; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Baerns of Knoxville, Scott, Michele, Kimmel and Hadley Baerns of Maryville, Jim, Lori, Katelyn and Austin Riant of Alabama, Corey of Michigan, Chris, Kim, Blake and Declan Baerns of Colorado, Jeremy Baerns of Colorado, and Greg, Becky and Natalie Baerns of Colorado; also special neice and nephew, Bonnie Pendergast of North Carolina and Richard Rehmer of Missouri; along with a host of relatives. After retiring, Doris spent 20 years at Inter-Community Hospital in Covina, Calif., where she logged almost 20,000 volunteer hours. She was a lifelong Lutheran and attributed her longevity to healthy living, exercise, and blessings from the Lord. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Cremation Options, Inc
