He was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Brooklyn to Arthur and Elizabeth (Bauer) Behrens. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army for four years as a technician, 4th grade.
He married Dorothy Kunzinger on Nov. 1, 1942, at Incarnation Church in Queens Village.
Mr. Behrens worked as a pressman for the Daily News in New York City for 35 years.
In Greenport, he was a member of the seniors club and the bowling league and, according to family, enjoyed fishing, gardening and helping at St, Agnes Church and cemetery.
Predeceased by his wife in January 2008, Mr. Behrens is survived by his children, Jane Ovsen and Thomas, both of Levittown, Arthur, of Massachusetts, Robert, of Greenport, and Raymond, of Riverhead; his sister, Ruth Clancy of Florida; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Family will receive visitors today, Thursday, Nov. 13, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 14, at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport, led by Father Thomas Murray. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.
