Harry's birth name was Aron Natan Bolsham, and was born in Odessa, Russia (which is now Ukraine). He fled to the U.S. at age 20 because of the persecution of the Jews at that time. He stowed away on a tramp steamer and it is believed that he disembarked in Pennsylvania. Harry changed his name when he converted to Roman Catholicism. He is the husband of Elizabeth (Sikich) Bell, and the father of Gertrude Pearl (Bell) Burnett and Marion Henrietta Bell (never married).
