GREENHURST - Edna A. Abbey, 88, of Main Street, Ellington, passed away at 11:55 a.m. Friday (March 6, 2009), in the Heritage Green Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Greenhurst, surrounded by her family.
She was born Jan. 21, 1921 in Dayton, N.Y., the daughter of the late Burton and Agnes Burmaster Bell.
Doris and her late husband owned and operated Abbey Hill Dairy Farm in Kennedy, retiring in 1976. In earlier years, she had worked at the National Worsted Mills in Falconer and the South Dayton Canning Factory.
She was a member of the Clark's Corners Community Church in Kennedy. Edna enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking, bird watching, flower gardening and doing puzzles,
She is survived by her son, William (Eloise) Haskins of Kennedy: five grandchildren: Dawn Sholl, Heather Thomas, Tim McConkey, William R. Haskins and Jeffrey Haskins: three sisters: Helen Weaver of Greenhurst, Carol Alnatt of Cherry Creek, and Leila Keppel of South Dayton and ; five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Abbey, whom she married on Jan. 3, 1953, and who preceded her on Jan, 10, 2003; a brother, Frederick Bell; and a sister, Marion Moffett.
