Josephine Baucom, of Atwater, California, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Anberry Rehabilitation Hospital after a long battle with circulatory problems.
Born in Oklahoma on August 17, 1929, to Joseph and Hazel Bell, Jo was an excellent student and a talented writer, and published several poems during the 1970's and 80's.
Jo and her husband John spent many years working as dance instructors and studio managers for Arthur Murray. They were "trouble-shooters" for Arthur, traveling from studio to studio all over the country, building up each business to profitability and then moving on to the next one in need. They were often compared to "Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire" for their dancing prowess.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, John. She is survived by her son David and wife Pam; son Chuck and wife Ann; grandsons Derek, Christopher and David Baucom and her great granddaughter Joslyn.
Friends can pay their respects from 10 to 12 noon, July 12 at Wilson's Family Funeral Chapel, 1290 Winton Way, Atwater, CA 95301. A grave-side funeral service will be held at 1:00, July 12, 2010 at Merced District Cemetery on "B" Street in Merced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society.
