Allen R. Bemont, 87, of 976 North Farms Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Lillian Malchodi Bemont.
He was born Feb. 19, 1911, in Woonsocket, R.I., a son of the late Ralph and Eva Roys Bemont. He was educated in the Meriden schools and was a communicant of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Meriden. He was a lifelong resident of Wallingford and for most of his life he was a self-employed builder and carpenter in the local area. His major hobbies included sailing, gardening and reading.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Leslie Bemont of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Jane Hamel of Amsterdam Holland, and Sally Bemont of Windsor, Vt.; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Robert Michalke of Brattleboro, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Durwood Bemont.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Walnut Grove Cemetery Chapel, 817 Old Colony Road, Meriden. There are no calling hours. If friends so desire, gifts in his memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Wallingford, 701 Center St., Wallingford, CT 06492, or St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden, CT 06450.
